You will need:
- Stylecraft Special Chunky
- 6mm Crochet Hook
- Darning needle
Tension: 12 sts and 8 rows to 10cm using half treble crochet through the back loop and a 6mm hook.

To begin chain 41 (36, 33)
Row 1 In the second chain from the hook htr into each chain across,ch1, turn.
Tip - To create the ribbed effect you will need to work through the back loop only (tbl).
Working in the back loop throughout (tbl)
Row 2 slst into first 2 stitches, dc into next 2 stitches, Work htr into each st along , ch2, turn.
Tip - By slightly decreasing on the first 4 stitches of every other row, you will be shaping the top of the hat so that there is not any excess material when you gather your hat when finishing it off.
Row 3 htr in 2ch from hook, htr into each st along, ch1, turn.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 for 37 ( 31, 31) ending on a wrong side row, finish off leaving a long thread for sewing.
To make up:
Using a darning needle sew up the side of your hat, through the back loop only.
Tip - Sewing through the back loop will keep the rib pattern so that the seam isn't visible.
Gather the hat at the top, sew over the hole.
Make a large pom pom and sew on the top
