This is a great introduction to shawl knitting; this basic asymmetric triangle shape is easily adapted once you’ve got the hang of the shaping. Using just one ball of 4 ply, this pattern works really well with a colour-changing yarn, giving the impression of a much more complicated design, but looks equally beautiful in a plain yarn. 
Easily adapted for different yarn weights, just increase your needle size accordingly, and knit to the size you want.
